For cats, the only reward that ever works in teaching them tricks is food. Like for dogs, you can slowly replace food with patting and attention. Not cats! And you can only build on what the individual cat would do anyway. I just imagine the cats going, "I don't require your affection. Just make with the treats and I'll do anything you want. If it suits me to do so."
I love that Charlotte's trick *is* getting treats.
